When Iceland was settled around 870 it was hardly the most exciting place for Vikings: uninhabited and out of the way in the far northern ocean where there was nothing of any particular value to be found. However, there are fanciful descriptions of Vikings in Iceland in the sagas. Who were these Vikings and what mad them famous – or infamous ?
