Have you ever wondered what it was like to grow up on a 19th century turf farm? In this richly illustrated storybook, we follow little Siggi, his friend Jóhanna and the family dog Ysja throughout a day in their lives. They get into various situations and meet funny characters, such as the travelers Mill-Kobbi and Belchy-Katrín who wandered between farms in Skagafjörður in the second half of the 19th century.

The story is set at Glaumbær, a vicarage in Skagafjörður, which was considered a very affluent farm. The characters are based on real people who lived at Glaumbær and in other places in Skagafjörður in the 19th century. This book aims to shed light on the daily life of past Icelanders via a child’s point of view. It also strives to spark interest in, as well as educate about, the completely different lifestyles led by the people here before.
